The Best Traditional Security Upgrades

As we have discussed in previous posts smart home security solutions have their pros and cons. Having a smart home can be cool and convenient, letting you monitor your property at the touch of a button. On the other hand, the market for smart devices is generally unregulated and leaves homeowners at the mercy of cyber hackers.

With that being said, traditional security solutions should be your priority for the time being when you are thinking of certain upgrades to your property.

Door Locks.

Anti Snap Euro Cylinder Locks with 10 Year Guarantee

Smart locks may dominate the market in the future but for the time being we always advise our customers to stick with traditional door locks for the time being. Always opt for the British Standard Institute kitemark when you are purchasing door locks, whether it be multipoint door locks or uPVC euro cylinder locks.

Here’s out guide to internal door lock types.

Window Locks.

When it comes to window locks you can upgrade them as long as you’ve got the right measurements. You can even retrofit extra security measures such as sash jammers and restrictors to add an extra layer of protection to your windows.

To measure your uPVC window lock measure the whole rail first, ie 800mm or 600mm, and then measure the backset.

Lighting.

Lighting will always be a part of people’s security systems whether it’s internet connected or not. Traditional security lighting is good enough as it is. Passive Infrared security lights detect heat and movement and are a good addition to your outdoor security.

Motion Sensors.

PIR technology is also used in motion sensors. There are some other sensors out there that will trigger an alarm if they are broken. They can be placed on windows and doors and will usually have a magnetic feature that will let you know when someone has tried to breach your window or door.

Conclusion

Burglars will often be deterred by a burglar alarm. However, as a homeowner, it is pointless having the latest hi-tech security system on your property when you have faulty locks on your windows or doors. That’s why here at Home Secure we like getting the basics right before we advise people to spend a small fortune on a deluxe home security system.

Smart home security definitely has its plus point but for the time being we think that traditional security measures should be implemented on your property when it comes to an overall upgrade.
