UPVC Window Handles are relatively easy to identify. The most popular types are:

‘Espag’ window handles come in two options, in-line and cranked. In-line uPVC window handles are straight and will turn left or right. This is why they are often called universal window handles.

Cranked handles come in left and right hand variations.

Measuring Espag uPVC window handles

Espag handles have a spindle bar at the back of the handle. The most common sizes of the spindle are 15mm, 20mm, 30mm & 40mm. The distance between the screws is 43mm standard.

Top Tip! – Many people buy a 40mm spindle and cut it down with a hacksaw if required

Cockspur Window Handles

Cockspur handles do not have a spindle on the back like espag handles, instead they have a spur (as the name suggests), which is positioned onto a wedge. These handles come in left and right variants and different size backsets. Cockspur wedges (pictured right) are available in different sizes to accomodate different backsets on the handles.
