Type A vs Type B uPVC Door Handles — What Is the Difference?

uPVC door handles are categorised as Type A or Type B based on how they attach to the door.

Type A handles (also called inline handles) have a one-piece backplate and the handle is fixed directly through the door with two bolts.

Type B handles (also called pad handles or offset handles) have a separate backplate and the handle is mounted with screws from the back.

The easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the back of your door — if you can see two bolt heads holding the handle on, you have a Type A handle. If you see screws going into the backplate, you have a Type B.

Replacement uPVC Door Handles

Replacing a worn or broken uPVC door handle is one of the quickest ways to improve both the look and security of your front or back door.

We stock replacement uPVC door handles in all the most common PZ sizes including 92mm, 70mm, 68mm and 62mm, with screw centre options to match your existing door drilling.

All handles are available in lever-lever and lever-pad configurations in white, chrome, gold and black finishes.

If your door handle feels loose or the spring mechanism has failed, a straight swap is usually all that is needed — no locksmith required.

How to Measure a uPVC Door Handle

Before ordering a replacement door handle, you need three measurements:

PZ measurement — the distance from the centre of the handle spindle hole to the centre of the keyhole. The most common PZ is 92mm.

Screw centres — the distance between the two fixing screw holes on the backplate. Common sizes are 122mm, 165mm, 190mm, 211mm and 240mm.

Overall backplate length — measure the full length of the backplate from top to bottom.
