Euro Cylinder Locks – Standard, Thumb Turn & High-Security Anti-Snap Cylinders

Euro cylinder locks — also known as lock barrels or door barrels — are the most common lock type fitted to uPVC, composite and wooden doors across the UK. Whether you need a replacement euro cylinder for your front door or you are upgrading to a high security anti-snap cylinder, our range covers every door type and security level.

We stock standard euro profile cylinder locks, TS007 3-Star anti-snap cylinders, thumb turn options and keyed alike sets from trusted brands including Avocet ABS and Yale. Every cylinder is available in multiple sizes and finishes, with fast UK delivery on all orders.

Anti-Snap Euro Cylinders

If your door has a standard euro cylinder without anti-snap protection, it may be vulnerable to lock snapping — one of the most common burglary techniques in the UK. Anti-snap euro cylinders are designed with a sacrificial cut line that breaks away under attack while keeping the main locking mechanism secure.

Our anti-snap cylinders are independently tested to TS007 3-Star and Sold Secure Diamond standards, providing maximum resistance against snapping, bumping, drilling and picking. The Avocet ABS range features patented Snap Secure technology with an active cam that locks the cylinder after an attack, creating a total barrier to entry. The Yale Platinum range offers 3-Star kitemarked protection with anti-bump, anti-pick and anti-drill features as standard.

How to Measure a Euro Cylinder

Getting the right size euro cylinder is essential for a proper fit. To measure your existing lock barrel:

1. Remove the cylinder from your door by undoing the single fixing screw on the edge of the door.
2. Measure from the centre of the screw hole to one end — this is your internal measurement (A).
3. Measure from the centre of the screw hole to the other end — this is your external measurement (B).
4. Your cylinder size is expressed as A/B, for example 40/50 (90mm overall).

Frequently Asked Questions

Remove the cylinder (undo the retaining screw in the door edge, turn the key slightly and slide it out), then measure from the centre of the cam/fixing hole to each end. You'll get two figures, for example 40/50, sold in 5mm increments. Measure each side separately — cylinders are often offset, not symmetrical.

TS007 3-Star is the highest British Kitemark rating for euro cylinders, independently tested against snapping, bumping, drilling, picking and plug extraction. A 3-star cylinder gives full protection on its own; alternatively a 1-star cylinder paired with 2-star security handles achieves the same 3-star total.

The euro profile shape is standard, so any euro cylinder fits any euro multipoint lock — but lengths vary widely. The correct size sits flush or protrudes no more than 3mm past the handle: a cylinder sticking out further is much easier to snap, even if it's anti-snap rated.

Key both sides prevents anyone unlocking the door by reaching through a letterbox or broken glass. A thumb turn lets you escape quickly without hunting for keys — often preferred for fire safety and rental properties. If the cylinder sits close to glazing or a letterbox, key both sides is generally the safer pick.

Avocet ABS and Yale lead the UK market. The Avocet ABS is TS007 3-Star and Sold Secure Diamond with patented snap-secure technology — our best seller — and as an Avocet Elite Centre we cut ABS keys on site with same-day dispatch. Yale Platinum cylinders offer 3-star protection with a dimple key system.

Yes — the euro profile is universal, so a replacement cylinder of the correct length works with any euro-profile multipoint mechanism, whatever the door brand. You only need the right measurement and your preferred type (key both sides, thumb turn or half cylinder).
