Window & Door Security – Sash Jammers, Restrictors & Extra Locks
How do I make my windows and doors more secure? Start with the locks you already have. On uPVC and composite doors, fit a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder such as the Avocet ABS, which we recommend. Sash jammers add extra locking points, but only on doors and windows that open inwards. Window restrictors limit how far a window opens, and locking window handles stop it being opened from inside. A patio door lock holds both handles of French doors together, and the FlapGUARD stops letterbox fishing.

Extra security for your windows and doors, on top of the locks you already have. Most of these fit in minutes with a screwdriver, with no need to replace the door or window.
Window security
Window restrictors: limit how far a window opens, for child safety and security. See window restrictors.
Locking window handles: a key-locking handle stops the window being opened from inside. See uPVC window handles.
Sash jammers: add an extra locking point to inward-opening windows.
Door security
Anti-snap cylinder: on a uPVC or composite door, fit a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder such as the Avocet ABS, which we recommend. See all euro cylinder locks.
Sash jammers: extra locking points for inward-opening doors (2 per door, top and bottom). They only work on doors and windows that open inwards.
Patio door lock: locks both handles of French or double patio doors together. No drilling.
Keypad door lock: mechanical code lock for side doors, offices and rentals.
Letterboxes can be used to fish for keys, reach the inside handle, or post burning material. The fire-retardant letterbox bag and the lockable FlapGUARD cover the inside of the letterbox, and two sash jammers on the inside flap make a letterbox lock. Read how to prevent letterbox burglary.
Four upgrades cover most homes: a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder on uPVC and composite doors, sash jammers on doors and windows that open inwards, locking window handles, and a letterbox cover such as the FlapGUARD. Most fit with a screwdriver.
No. Sash jammers only work on doors and windows that open inwards. Fit them on the inside, usually two per door, top and bottom. For doors that open outwards, look at the cylinder and the multipoint lock instead.
Keep keys away from the door and lock it with the key every time. Then cover the inside of the letterbox: the FlapGUARD is a lockable steel cover that still lets post through, and the fire-retardant letterbox bag catches your post and can contain small fires.
