Why Choose Our Cockspur Handles?

  • Versatile Compatibility: Ideal for uPVC, aluminium, and timber frames—perfect for older home styles or mobile homes.

  • Adjustable Step Heights: Available in standard sizes (9 mm, 15 mm, 21 mm, and more), with wedge kits for optimal fit—even if your current handle isn’t an exact match.

  • Balanced Fixing Options: Choose models with 2–4 fixing points on widely compatible centres (typically 38 mm / 58 mm), ensuring secure installation.

  • Locking & Non-Locking Variants: Find key-locking handles for enhanced security or emergency release versions (“easy-clean” or anti-fall designs) for safety and convenience.

  • Stylish Finishes: Choose from a wide selection of finishes—white, chrome, brass, gold, black—to match your window hardware.

Why These Handles Work

Cockspur handles use a simple yet effective latch mechanism, engaging over a wedge block to tightly close and seal your window. This design ensures reliable performance and minimal maintenance, especially important for older windows.

Ensure the Right Fit

Unsure what size handle you need?

  • Measure the step height (from the nose to the base) and match it to our available sizes—or use a wedge to fine-tune the fit.

  • Pick the correct handing—left or right—based on your window’s opening direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

A cockspur handle has a projecting nose (the spur) that hooks over a striker wedge on the frame to hold the window shut. It's the traditional handle on older uPVC and aluminium windows — if your handle clips over a block rather than turning a spindle, it's a cockspur.

Nib height is the drop from the underside of the handle base to the underside of the spur nose — commonly 9mm, 13mm or 21mm. Measure your old handle or the gap it bridges to the striker; the wrong nib height leaves the window loose or impossible to close.

Hold the handle as it sits fitted: if the spur points left it's left-handed, right is right-handed. It normally matches the side the window hinges are on. Our universal repair cockspur adjusts to either hand if you're unsure.

Not directly — cockspur windows have no espag mechanism inside for a spindle to drive. Replace cockspur with cockspur. If the striker wedge is also worn, replace both together for a snug close.

Yes — our VERSA universal cockspur repair handle adjusts to cover the common sizes and handings in one unit, in white and standard finishes. It's the quickest fix when the original handle brand is long obsolete.
