Euro cylinder door locks are the most common lock type in Britain today. They are versatile and most brands will fit any kind of uPVC door, as well as composite, aluminium and patio doors. They can be fitted to your front and back doors and offer resistance to drilling, picking, bumping etc.
If you already know your cylinder size, browse our full range of euro cylinder locks — we stock anti-snap, thumb turn, key both sides and keyed alike options in all common sizes.
Security brands such as Yale and Avocet supply three star euro cylinders that really are the gold standard of door locks. When measuring and fitting your euro cylinder lock, it’s not just about getting the dimensions right — it’s also about ensuring proper security placement. According to guidance from West Yorkshire Police, a cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle can make your door more vulnerable to snapping attacks, one of the most common methods used by intruders. They recommend fitting locks that sit flush with the handle and choosing models tested to British Standard TS 007 for enhanced protection. You can read their full advice on safe installation and security best practices here: West Yorkshire Police – Euro Cylinder Advice
When replacing your euro cylinder, we strongly recommend upgrading to a TS007 3-Star anti-snap cylinder.
Standard cylinders without anti-snap protection can be broken in seconds — a 3-Star rated cylinder from Avocet ABS or Yale Platinum provides the highest level of protection available. Browse our Avocet ABS euro cylinder locks.

Euro Cylinder Diagram

See our ‘How To Measure Your Euro Cylinder Lock’ diagram
- The first measurement should be taken from the edge of the cylinder to the centre of the screw.
- The second measurement should be taken from the centre of the screw to the other edge of the cylinder
The most common euro cylinder sizes for UK uPVC and composite doors are 35/35 (70mm overall), 40/40 (80mm overall) and 45/45 (90mm overall).
If your door has a thumb turn on the inside, measure from the centre of the screw hole to each end separately — the two halves may be different lengths.
If your key is difficult to turn even with a new cylinder, the multipoint locking mechanism inside the door may need attention.
A worn gearbox puts extra strain on the cylinder and can cause premature failure. Browse our replacement multipoint door lock gearboxes.
