Euro cylinder measuring guide showing how to measure side A and side B from the central fixing screw to determine the correct cylinder size for your door

Not sure which size cylinder you need?

Euro cylinders are measured in two halves, separated by the central fixing screw. Take both measurements from your existing cylinder before ordering, and match them to the size listed above.

A — Internal side
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw to the outer edge of the cylinder on the side that faces inside your home. Common sizes are 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, or 50mm.

B — External side
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw to the outer edge of the cylinder on the side that faces outside your home. Common sizes are 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, or 45mm.

Cylinders are typically described as A/B — for example, a 35/45 cylinder has 35mm on the internal side and 45mm on the external side. Get both measurements right and the cylinder will fit your door perfectly.

Still unsure? Send a photo of your existing cylinder to info@homesecureshop.co.uk and we'll match it for you — or call 0151 521 8089 to speak to our team.

Product overview

The Avocet ABS is a TS007 3 star, British Kitemarked anti-snap euro cylinder. It is a retrofit product: you take out your old cylinder and fit the ABS in its place, with no changes to the door.

  • 3 keys come with every cylinder as standard
  • Snap Secure Technology: after snapping, the cam locks against the internal locked side of the cylinder, so it can't be operated by hand
  • Anti-snap, anti-drill and anti-pick
  • TS007 3 star rating, with the insurance-recommended British Kitemark™ stamp
  • Master Locksmith Association's Sold Secure Diamond standard

Sizes and finishes

  • Type: euro double cylinder (key both sides). For a thumb turn inside, see the Avocet ABS thumb turn cylinder.
  • Finishes: Chrome or Brass
  • Sizes: 30mm to 60mm on each side, in 5mm steps (choose the size above)

Please note: 30mm cylinders do not display a kitemark due to reduced numbers of key combinations. 30mm cylinders still snap off at the sacrificial point in front of the cam, so an intruder can't get into the lock case.

How to measure

Measurements on this lock are taken to the centre screw. Measure from the centre of the fixing screw hole to the inside end (A) and to the outside end (B). A 40/50 cylinder is 40mm inside and 50mm outside. See our euro cylinder measuring guide for photos of each step.

Want all your locks on the same key?

Choose Avocet ABS keyed alike and we'll supply multiple cylinders that all work from one key. Already have ABS keys? Choose built to code so the new cylinder works with your existing key, or order extra ABS keys cut to code.

Frequently Asked Questions

TS007 is the British standard for anti-snap euro cylinders. A 3-star cylinder gives the full rating on its own. A 1-star cylinder needs 2-star security handles to reach 3 stars. The Avocet ABS is Kitemarked to TS007 3 star and also meets the Sold Secure Diamond standard.

If someone snaps the front off the cylinder, the cam locks against the inside part of the lock, so it can't be turned by hand and the door stays locked.

30mm to 60mm on each side, in 5mm steps, in chrome or brass. Cylinders with a 30mm side don't show a Kitemark, because of the smaller number of key combinations, but they still snap at the sacrificial point in front of the cam.

It's the cylinder we've recommended at our trade counter for over 10 years. It can also be keyed alike, so one key opens all your doors, which Yale Platinum can't do. See the comparison table on this page, or build a keyed alike set.

Undo the fixing screw in the edge of the door and take the old cylinder out. Measure from the centre of the screw hole to the inside end (A) and to the outside end (B). A 40/50 cylinder is 40mm inside and 50mm outside. Sizes must match exactly: a 40/50 is not the same as a 50/40. Our euro cylinder measuring guide has photos of each step.
