Frequently Asked Questions

This is a British Standard 5-Lever Mortice Sashlock. It combines a traditional mortice deadlock with a built-in latch, meaning the door can be closed with the latch and fully secured using the key-operated deadbolt.

This lock is designed for wooden doors, commonly used on external front and back doors. Mortice sash locks are not suitable for uPVC or composite doors, as those door types use different locking systems.

A 5-lever mechanism offers strong protection against picking and forced entry. British Standard versions also include anti-saw, anti-drill, and anti-tamper features, making them ideal for securing external doors that require insurance-approved hardware.

You can find a full explanation of how a 5-lever mortice lock works, what makes it secure, and when it should be used here: What is a 5 Lever Mortice Lock?

Installation is possible as a DIY task if you are comfortable chiselling a mortice into a wooden door and aligning the lock case and strike plate correctly. However, many people choose a locksmith to ensure perfect alignment and smooth operation.
