Euro cylinder measuring guide showing how to measure side A and side B from the central fixing screw to determine the correct cylinder size for your door

Not sure which size cylinder you need?

Euro cylinders are measured in two halves, separated by the central fixing screw. Take both measurements from your existing cylinder before ordering, and match them to the size listed above.

A — Internal side
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw to the outer edge of the cylinder on the side that faces inside your home. Common sizes are 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm, or 50mm.

B — External side
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw to the outer edge of the cylinder on the side that faces outside your home. Common sizes are 30mm, 35mm, 40mm, or 45mm.

Cylinders are typically described as A/B — for example, a 35/45 cylinder has 35mm on the internal side and 45mm on the external side. Get both measurements right and the cylinder will fit your door perfectly.

Still unsure? Send a photo of your existing cylinder to info@homesecureshop.co.uk and we'll match it for you — or call 0151 521 8089 to speak to our team.

How to measure your cylinder

Euro cylinders are measured from the central fixing screw to each end. Take the cylinder out (undo the screw in the door edge), then measure from the centre of the screw hole to the inside end (A) and to the outside end (B). A cylinder written as 40/50 is 40mm inside and 50mm outside. The cylinder should sit flush with the handle or stick out no more than 3mm. Our euro cylinder measuring guide has photos of each step.

What TS007 3 star means

TS007 is a standard developed in response to cylinder attacks. It uses a 3 star rating: you get 3 stars either with a 1 star cylinder plus 2 star security door furniture, or with a stand-alone 3 star cylinder. The Yale Platinum Ultra is a 3 star cylinder, so it doesn't need security handles to reach the full rating. Read more in TS007 3-star euro cylinders explained.

Frequently Asked Questions

TS007 is the British standard for anti-snap euro cylinders. A 3-star cylinder gives the full rating on its own. A 1-star cylinder needs 2-star security handles to reach 3 stars. The Yale Platinum Ultra is Kitemarked to TS007:2014 3 star and also rated Sold Secure Diamond.

uPVC, composite and timber doors that use a euro cylinder, the lock held in by a single screw through the edge of the door. Choose the same size as your old cylinder.

Undo the fixing screw in the edge of the door and take the old cylinder out. Measure from the centre of the screw hole to the inside end (A) and to the outside end (B). A 40/50 cylinder is 40mm inside and 50mm outside. Sizes must match exactly: a 40/50 is not the same as a 50/40. Our euro cylinder measuring guide has photos of each step.

Yes. With the right size it's a screwdriver job: undo the fixing screw, turn the key slightly so the cam lines up with the cylinder, slide the old cylinder out and the new one in, then refit the screw.

3 keys come as standard, with a key code card. Extra keys can be cut to the code on your card. Yale Platinum isn't available keyed alike. For one key for every door, choose Avocet ABS keyed alike.
